Market Square is reclaimed for pedestrian/public occupation. With the following infrastructural amenities: a paved surface that accommodates for multiple uses and leisurely activities, a bus stop with a protective canopy, water features including fountains and cascading pools, restrooms and storage/maintenance facilities.

The canopy is a prominent architectural element that shelters a bus-stop. It is integral to a tensegrity structure that is deployed above the square to form a virtual roof: the primary purpose of the steel-cable net is to suspend the canopy while the canopy’s compressive members, conversely, serve to anchor and stabilize the net.

The steel net holding the canopy also supports an array of fiber-optics cables. It is designed, along with auxiliary fixtures, to light the square in a variety of programmable patterns. Possible lighting scenarios include interactive web-based programming and sensor triggered real-time responsiveness.

By means of embedded transducers, the wood canopy performs like an oversized loudspeaker. It amplifies the sound of the cascading water in proportional response to the ambient city noise.
